This proposed new residential scheme is to be situated on an existing private car park that serves an adjacent office building called Eastwood House. The site is about a 3 minute walk North from Chelmsford Railway Station and is also a stone’s throw from the New Street Works – formerly the manufacturing plant of the first purpose-built radio in the world by the Marconi Company.
The scheme consists of 197 new apartments divided between 3 building blocks Block A (1 to 4 storeys), Block B (3 to 7 storeys) and Block C (3 to 5 storeys). Connecting Blocks B and C at first floor level is a podium courtyard with communal landscaped areas and private terraces. Block A houses the residential amenity facilities; café, cycle maintenance room, meeting room, gym and changing rooms.
The design features a distinct usage of oriel windows and creative juxtaposition of traditional and contemporary materials with brickwork in vibrant warm tones and sleek zinc cladding in a standing seam configuration.
