This project for Marydene Ltd involved the sensitive redevelopment of a Grade II listed property at Belle Vue Terrace in the heart of Great Malvern’s conservation area. The scheme included the conversion of the upper floors into eight high-quality residential apartments, alongside the change of use of the ground floor into a single restaurant unit. Careful consideration was given to preserving the historic character of the three-storey 19th-century façade, with only minor alterations proposed, while the less significant rear areas were adapted to create functional and modern living and commercial spaces.
The refurbishment enhanced the building’s long-term sustainability and made best use of underutilised floorspace. Traditional materials such as clay brick, slate roof tiles, painted timber doors, and sash windows were incorporated to ensure the proposals remained in keeping with the conservation setting. Improvements also included a new fire escape and better access to flat roof areas, while concealed plant and ventilation preserved the building’s character. The project not only revitalised an important heritage asset but also created new residential and commercial opportunities, contributing positively to the vibrancy of Malvern town centre.
