The Bard’s Walk redevelopment project in Stratford-upon-Avon involved proposals to convert the vacant upper floors of the shopping arcade on Wood Street into 19 high-quality residential dwellings. Situated in the heart of the town centre, within a designated conservation area and surrounded by a mix of retail, commercial and historic buildings, the scheme was carefully designed to respect its sensitive context. The sustainable town centre location, within walking distance of key transport links, made the site ideally suited for new housing.
The scheme would bring underused floorspace back into active use, enhancing both the building and its surroundings. With a “fabric first” approach, the development focused on modern construction methods, sustainable materials, and energy-efficient design to deliver contemporary homes fit for the 21st century. By preserving and enhancing the character of the conservation area while addressing local housing needs, the proposals represented a sensitive and sustainable solution for a prominent town centre site.
