The De Ferrers Academy repurposed the former Burton and South Derbyshire UTC building on Waterloo Street, Burton upon Trent, to create a dedicated Sixth Form Centre. To support this transition, BDG Studio designed a new on-site parking facility of 43 spaces was delivered within the existing hard landscaped yard, replacing redundant planters, a cycle compound, and a disused sports court, while retaining secure boundaries and access.

The development made effective use of previously developed land, aligning with national planning policy and supporting the long-term sustainability of the academy. By providing dedicated staff and student parking under the academy’s control, the project removed reliance on nearby permit-only spaces, secured a viable future for the building, and strengthened its role as a significant local employer and education provider.
