The redevelopment of the Oasis Leisure Centre in Swindon set out to revitalise a landmark with a rich cultural and architectural legacy. First opened in 1976 and now Grade II listed, the iconic dome required innovative solutions to secure its future, including over-cladding with ETFE — a lightweight, durable, and self-cleaning material that preserves its distinctive character while ensuring long-term sustainability.

The proposals restored the centre’s celebrated ‘wet side’ and reimagined the ‘dry side’ with a new entrance, additional storey, and modern facilities such as a gym, café, bowling alley, and indoor golf. Enhanced with cohesive cladding, improved landscaping, and greater biodiversity, the scheme creates a resilient leisure destination within walking distance of Swindon town centre and railway station, representing a major investment in both community wellbeing and the town’s identity.
